Mutigny occupies the high ground above Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, on south- and east-facing slopes that run high enough into the cordon that the commune is more forest than vineyard. The plantings are heavily Pinot Noir, with Meunier and a small Chardonnay share filling out the mix. The village has no signature vineyard or famous resident house, and most of the fruit serves as a structural reservoir for the major maisons of Aÿ, Reims, and Épernay, where it lends acidity and tension to non-vintage blends.
