Frequently asked questions

What is Parcelles?

Parcelles lets you explore the vineyards and villages of the Champagne wine region like never before. It combines terroir analysis, geological data, climate records, and cartography into a single, beautifully designed experience.

Which devices are supported?

Parcelles is available for iPhone. An iPad version and an Android version are both currently in development.

Does Parcelles work offline?

Core vineyard data is available offline once loaded. Map tiles and some detailed overlays require an internet connection.

Is Parcelles a subscription?

Parcelles is free to explore: the interactive map of over 8,000 parcels, search, classifications, and multiple map styles need no account. Everything else is part of Parcelles Membership, a single subscription at CHF 9.90/month or CHF 79/year, with a 7-day free trial. It renews automatically and you can cancel any time in App Store settings. (Actual prices may vary by country and are determined by the App Store.)

What does Membership include?

Membership unlocks everything beyond the free map: full terroir analysis (altitude, slope, exposure, soil, geology), expert interpretations, latest and historical vintage weather, vintage ratings, elevation profiles and subsurface cross-sections, map overlays, advanced filters, nearby vineyards, and vineyard-to-bottle tracing. It also includes Vintage Scores, Terroir Twins, comparison of up to 10 vineyards, the Champagne Climate Outlook with CMIP6 projections, the Season Tracker, and PDF & Excel exports. New data is added continuously and is always part of your membership.

I bought Parcelles before it became a subscription. Do I keep my access?

Yes. Any purchase you made before Parcelles moved to a membership stays valid, and the features you unlocked remain available. You can open the app and use them as before.

Can I try Membership before paying?

Yes. Every Membership starts with a 7-day free trial. You get full access during the trial, and if you cancel before it ends you are not charged. After the trial it renews automatically at your chosen monthly or yearly price, and you can cancel any time in App Store settings.

Where does the data come from?

Parcelles combines official French geographic datasets (BD TOPO, BD Charm-50), elevation models, weather and climate data from Open-Meteo, vintage reports from the CIVC, and OpenStreetMap data. Vineyard boundaries come from the official AOC delimitations.

How do Vintage Scores work?

Vintage Scores are a Membership feature that produces a performance score on the 100-point scale for any vineyard in any given vintage. It's not a wine rating, it asks a prior question: given this parcel's aspect, slope, altitude, and soil, and given the actual weather of that year, how favourably should these conditions have interacted? Five physical factors (aspect × heat accumulation, slope × water balance, altitude × growing temperature, soil × water balance, and sunshine hours) are scored against measured Open-Meteo weather data from 1950 onward, then blended 70/30 with an expert vintage consensus derived from CIVC harvest reports and specialist sources. Thresholds are calibrated to Champagne-specific data, not generic viticulture literature, and the model is grounded in published research from INRAE, the Université de Reims, and the CIVC.

What is the Climate Outlook?

The Champagne Climate Outlook is a Membership feature that shows how Champagne's climate has evolved and where it's heading. It combines historical trends (growing degree days, rainfall, and sunshine since the 1950s) with CMIP6 climate projections through the 2040s, aggregated at both region-wide and subregion level across all 7 Champagne subregions. An archetype shift analysis shows how the frequency of cool, warm, dry, and heatwave vintages is changing over time. It's designed for professionals and enthusiasts who want to understand the long-term trajectory of the region's growing conditions.

Is every champagne cuvée in the database?

No, the Champagne region is dynamic, with new cuvées appearing all the time, so a complete database isn't realistic. We continuously add houses, growers, and bottlings to cover as much ground as we can.

What is the Season Tracker?

The Season Tracker is a Membership feature that lets you follow the current growing season village by village, updated daily from April through October. For each village it shows cumulative growing degree days (GDD), rainfall, frost and hail events, a water balance indicator, and a season narrative describing the current trajectory. An archetype outlook classifies the season against four historical patterns, cool, warm & wet, warm & dry, or heatwave, with live probability shifts. A harvest prediction estimates the likely harvest window based on historical GDD-at-harvest thresholds, with confidence intervals that narrow as the season progresses and the closest analog vintage. A GDD heartbeat chart plots the current year's curve against the historical envelope since 1950. You can bookmark villages to track them from the home screen via the Season Pulse card, which surfaces warmth status, frost and hail alerts, and subregion-level summaries at a glance. All projections are based on statistical models using decades of weather data and are for informational purposes only, they do not constitute viticultural advice.

How does the vineyard poster work?

Choose any vineyard in Champagne and we produce a museum-quality A1 giclée print on heavyweight matte art paper, mounted with a solid oak wood hanger with magnetic fastening and a hanging cord. The poster is printed with water-based inks on sustainably sourced paper and wood, and is vegan-friendly. It ships in a rigid cardboard tube with eco-friendly packaging directly to your address. Production takes 2 to 5 business days, and delivery times depend on your location. Order from the shop on this site.

Where does the poster ship from, and will I be charged customs or duties?

Posters are printed on demand by a trusted third-party print partner, with print hubs around the world (UK, US, EU, Australia, and others). Your order is automatically routed to the hub closest to your shipping address to minimize transit time and environmental impact, but depending on stock and capacity, a poster may occasionally ship from a different country. If your order crosses a customs border, your local authorities may charge import duties, taxes, or handling fees on delivery. These charges are set by your country and are entirely outside our control, so we are unable to cover or reimburse them, they are the responsibility of the recipient. If you're unsure how this might affect you, please check your country's import rules before placing the order, or email us at hello@parcelles.app and we'll do our best to help.

How do I restore my purchase on a new device?

Open Parcelles on your new device and go to Settings. Tap "Restore Purchases" and your Membership and any earlier purchases will be restored automatically through the App Store.

Can I request a refund?

In-app purchases are processed by Apple. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com and follow Apple's refund process.

I found a bug. How do I report it?

Please email us at hello@parcelles.app with a description of the issue and, if possible, a screenshot. We review every report and will get back to you as soon as we can.
