Tours-sur-Marne sits on the floor of the Marne valley, alongside the Marne canal, between Aÿ and Bouzy. The vineyards rise on south-facing slopes in the northern part of the commune, contiguous with Bouzy. The classification was for many years asymmetric: 100% Grand Cru for Pinot Noir, but only 90% Premier Cru for Chardonnay, the inverse of Chouilly's split status further west. After the Échelle des Crus was abolished in 2010, the Grand Cru rating extended uniformly across all grape varieties. Pinot Noir dominates the plantings on what is the smallest Grand Cru on the Vallée de la Marne. The village's modern identity is largely shaped by Laurent-Perrier, whose production headquarters sit here, and there are very few resident grower-producers bottling under their own names.
