Chigny-les-Roses sits on north-facing slopes on the northern Montagne de Reims, with vineyards that are predominantly Pinot Meunier. The "les-Roses" was added to the name in the early twentieth century after President Émile Loubet admired a local mansion's rose garden during an official visit. Today the village is most closely associated with Cattier, a long-established estate that owns the small walled Clos du Moulin monopole and that produces the metallic-bottled luxury cuvée Armand de Brignac, launched in 2006 and best known for the cultural moment when Jay-Z became a controlling stakeholder in 2014. Beneath the brand-name surface, Chigny-les-Roses has the cool exposures and Meunier-led mix typical of the Petite Montagne.
