Ludes sits on the northern Montagne de Reims, with a substantial vineyard area that is unusually Meunier-heavy compared to the neighbouring villages on the same flank. The village is the headquarters of one of the historic mid-sized houses, founded in 1868, and it is also home to one of the most quoted grower estates of the modern Champagne discourse, a biodynamic family operation whose vineyard-designated bottlings have helped to define what serious northern-Montagne Meunier and Chardonnay can taste like. The exposures here are mostly north-facing, with eastern and western variants that subtly change the ripeness curve.
