Villeneuve-Renneville-Chevigny is a flat-land Chardonnay commune east of the Côte des Blancs slope, formed by the mid-nineteenth-century merger of three smaller villages. The vineyards are almost entirely Chardonnay, on the plain along the Berle stream rather than on the actual hillside, and the village functions essentially as a supply zone for major maisons. There are no resident producers of household-name stature, and most of the fruit goes anonymously into négociant blends. The Premier Cru status sits on the long history of the slope rather than on any modern producer presence.
