Étréchy is officially in the Val du Petit Morin, behind the southern Côte des Blancs hill, and it is the smallest Premier Cru in Champagne. The vines are entirely Chardonnay. The village has 125 inhabitants and just nine vineyard owners, and the Premier Cru status is one of the obscurer corners of the Champagne classification.
